Hungry?
Have a simple ABA plot.
A serious sandwich is always fun- setting up a
joke premise and then taking it seriously for a bit, before tossing it all out
with a flourish of wit or stupidity.
The joke forms the bun. It makes the excuse. It
carries the cheese to the consumer.
Apparently this is a cheese sandwich.
Bonus if the serious thing- the cheese- is
deeply unique and specific and lush. Oh my god make it lush! Make us transport
with you to taste and touch and feel everything in this moment before you
release us.
I'm hungry.
***********
Just gonna keep pushing
myself on this one idea until I run out of steam.
I'm starting to get the
sinking feeling I may need at least one, perhaps two, more songs in order to
cover all the relationships Auggie the musician is processing. That'll be a task for another day. Just marking down things as they cross my
mind.
Here, we have Sarah and
Jeffrey trying to negotiate the awkward situation of having to come up with the
antidote to set Sarah's husband Auggie free from his current magical
infatuation with Micah.
************
SARAH, looking over the recipe for the antidote
with JEFFREY.
SARAH
So
the only thing we're missing is - this.
JEFFREY
Right.
SARAH
And
none of the stores in town have any.
JEFFREY
Duncan
checked. Everybody's out.
SARAH
You'd
think if they keep all the ingredients for the love potion on hand, or
anything, really, they'd always keep the stuff for the antidotes handy, too.
JEFFREY
Maybe
there's more people undoing than doing the spell?
SARAH
Well,
that should have been your first hint, shouldn't it?
JEFFREY
Duncan
has some contacts in nearby cities so he feels pretty confident he can track
some down and get it here quickly.
SARAH
How
quickly?
JEFFREY
Still
waiting for word on that.
SARAH
Should
we call?
JEFFREY
I'm
pretty sure he'll call as soon as he knows.
SARAH
Pretty
sure, huh?
JEFFREY
He's
trying to impress me.
SARAH
Really.
JEFFREY
(a bit bashful)
Yeah.
SARAH
There
must be something in the water lately.
Forget
I said that.
JEFFREY
No
magic this time.
SARAH
You
learned your lesson a day late it seems.
JEFFREY
Yeah. Sorry about that.
SARAH
You
realize what an impossible position this puts me in, right?
JEFFREY
We
get all the ingredients, it should work, undo the damage.
SARAH
And
after?
JEFFREY
After?
SARAH
How
am I supposed to trust either of you again?
You or Michah?
JEFFREY
Oh.
SARAH
Yeah.
I
mean, they're best friends. They're almost
maddeningly in sync with each other, almost but not quite dependent on each
other. It's hard not to be jealous
sometimes. But now -
I
can't forbid them to see each other.
But
I can't really trust them alone together anymore, can I?
JEFFREY
I
am never going to ever do anything like this ever again.
SARAH
Yeah,
but this isn't a line you cross, is it?
If
Micah was willing to do this -
JEFFREY
Neither
of us thought it would work.
SARAH
You
keep saying that like it matters. You
both did it anyway!
JEFFREY
Sorry.
SARAH
Let's
just - put together the stuff we can.
Make sure we've got everything all set up. That way when your new pal comes through for
us, we can just add that last ingredient and get it to Auggie.
JEFFREY
OK.
They work, silently. Awkwardly.
(to be continued)
