20 - Summers In Prague - Sidecar Theatre - Rarig Arena
Mara, a thirty-five-year-old English teacher, goes on a trip to Prague and uncharacteristically hires a male escort. Join us for this funny, intimate and unexpectedly poignant journey of self- discovery.
I will admit to having a weakness for stories involving male prostitutes (I even wrote one, once upon a time). Though I know there are a myriad of issues of exploitation and consent (I’m hardly viewing the whole thing romantically), there’s something about the dividing line between sex and love that seems much clearer when there’s money involved. So this Fringe show already had that going for it. This is the same company that presented last year’s surprise hit De Hjertelose (The Heartless). This year they’re partnering with local Chameleon Theatre Circle to produce the world premiere of Deanna Strasse’s play. And I have to say I’m envious of her cast. I think Samantha Papke is one of the best actresses in town. I’d watch her in pretty much anything. I’ve also enjoyed Avi Aharoni’s work in other productions, and the two of them were really charming together in the show’s Fringe preview. So, yeah, I’m on board for this one. New play, great cast, guilty pleasure subject matter. You don’t have to twist my arm too hard.
