New artist to the Twin Cities.
Award-winning solo show that’s already been on the Fringe circuit in both Orlando and Edmonton.
A window into a completely different world than my own.
That’s pretty much all I needed to recommend it, but you don’t have to trust just me, you could take the word of multiple theater critics who’ve seen the show and say things like:
“enthralling… mesmerizing… brilliantly crafted one-man show that is sure to stay on the minds of his audiences long after the curtain comes down.” - Orlando Sentinel
“alternately chilling and heartwarming” - Ink19
“Viet Nguyen twists the memory play and the multi-character solo show together in a resonant and ingenious way that changes both. The result is mesmerizing. Memory expands to cross continents, oceans, wars, generations, cultures, time. There’s a swirl of memories, heartbreaking, wistful, and funny — stories from a fascinating gallery of characters.” - Edmonton Journal
“a small show that will stay with you. It deserves to be seen – and celebrated.” - Elizabeth Maupin on Theater
There’s also a video trailer that gives you a preview of the look of the show (and more praise from critics, of course)
The plan right now is to see this as my first show, because Thursday at 5:30pm on the first day of Fringe is a tough slot for a new Fringe artist, not to mention a solo show. There are actually a lot of newbies to the Minnesota Fringe in this first slot, so get out there and make an early start of it, the Fringers could use the audience, and one can never start Fringing early enough.
UPDATE 8/3: He did a Fringe preview (and was one of the few people who could really fill the space with his voice while acting) on Fringe Eve, the day before the festival began. It made me even more eager to see the show:
